Love rests on two pillars: surrender and autonomy. Our need for togetherness exists alongside our need for separateness.

About Mira

I am most interested in exploring intimate relationship as a catalyst for personal growth. Intimacy is chaotic, enchanting, perplexing, and impermanent. Yet, engaging in relationship is among the most challenging and meaningful aspects of living. My orientation is a blend of somatic, contemplative, and socially-just approaches.

I believe it is of the utmost importance to recognize the contribution of larger forces, to allow the moment-to-moment experience to guide the therapeutic relationship, and to cultivate our sensory awareness. These ideas expand our ability to feel, express, and regulate emotion using the body. For this reason, I believe somatic therapy is a powerful modality.

The word somatic comes from the Greek word sōma, meaning body and is defined as “pertaining to the body.” Somatic Counseling Psychology is the study of human experience as fundamentally embedded within the structures, processes, and capacities of the body. The body stores our experience so it makes sense that the body is also the source of our resilience. A body-based lens invites an exploration of dis/embodiment—where we can learn how movement and stillness, posture and gesture, and kinesphere—the sphere surrounding the body’s periphery, influence how we relate to ourselves and the world.

Mira is a member of The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) and the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Mira’s writing has been published in the American Journal of Dance Therapy and Body, Movement, and Dance in Psychotherapy: An International Journal for Theory, Research, and Practice. Mira uses a body-centered, contemplative, and socially just therapeutic approach in clinical practice. She offers a safe space to develop self-authorship and differentiation in intimate relationships.
