Meet

Staj Hanson, MFTC

It is your right as a human being to have fruitful, loving, and supportive relationships with others and yourself. Often, we are brought out of alignment with this truth. We come to believe that we are not deserving of love and kindness or that others are incapable of giving us these things. Therapy provides a connected space for us to explore our needs & desires, our fears & hopes.

About Staj

My clientele of focus have been mostly sexual identity minorities (queer, trans, gay/lesbian, bisexual, asexual), as well as relational identity minorities (polyamorous, CNM/ENM, open, and relationship anarchists). I’ve worked with straight and cis clients, as well as queer and trans clients, on talking about sex and navigating differences in sexual desires and kinks. My vision for clients is always for them to uncover and develop strength within vulnerability, as we move through these difficulties and impasses together.

Through my graduate program at Capella University, as well as through personal study, I have focused on developing a strong foundation in postmodern, collaborative approaches, and am committed to supporting individuals and couples in their journey toward sexual and emotional well-being. Additionally, I work to some extent with the IFS model, marrying a collaborative stance which respects each person’s own self-understanding with the framework of a parts-based model.

Lastly, but fundamentally, actively acknowledging race and culture in the therapy room is deeply important to me and central to my work. It is vital to my therapeutic relationships that my clients feel totally empowered to acknowledge differences in lived experiences from me, as well as from one another.
